Abigail Jackson Smith

she/her • Oglala Lakota Nation

Abigail is a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation and resident of the West Side of Chicago, where she’s raising her two rescue pups, Sue Bird and Elgin Baylor.

She obtained her B.S. from Dartmouth College and J.D. from the Washington University School of Law. A year into her DOJ honors fellowship, Abigail hit “pause” on her legal career to follow her curiosity (it’s been 9 years). Over the past decade, she’s developed expertise in community-based marketing, branding, creative strategy, communications design, and people/culture working with a diverse set of organizations—including nonprofits, law firms, tech startups, tribal nations, quasi-governmental organizations, design studios, marketing agencies, cannabis brands, a medical device manufacturer, and more.

Abigail is also co-founder of Well-Read Native, a nonprofit focused on liberative literature and amplifying Indigenous voices, and Joyn x Design, a joy-centered talent firm that leverages people-first design thinking to help organizations attract, hire, grow, and retain talent.

Outside of work, Abigail enjoys adventuring with her fam, friends, and pups, tending to her rapidly growing urban jungle, reading, riding horses, watching and playing basketball, fashion history, and photography.
